One Health, One Welfare - Building compassionate communities in Western Kenya
Nyakach Pets Lovers is a non-profit, registered community-based organization operating in tiny, remote, rural villages along the shores of Lake Victoria. We focus on the welfare of pets (dogs and cats), designed to operate at the grassroots level with community participation.
Our work embraces the 'One Health' approach, acknowledging that a healthy pet is vital for a healthy, secure community. We collaborate with local authorities, veterinary departments, and the general public to manage pet health through education, vaccination, and responsible ownership.

Providing basic, low-cost or free veterinary first aid for injured or sick village pets.

The guiding principles that shape our approach to animal welfare
Acknowledging that the health of a community is dependent on the health of its animals and environment.
Understanding that pets in African villages often live independently but serve crucial roles as guardians. Our approach respects this while mitigating neglect.
Training local community members (paravets) to take ownership of animal welfare, rather than relying solely on external aid.
Treating all animals as sentient beings worthy of dignity and comfort.
Making a difference through hands-on community engagement
